Wildbeest Migration Safari - Western Corridor - 6 days (June)
6 Days guided tour
Serengeti National Park
Travel Details

Seeing the enormous herds of the Great Migration making crossings of the Grumeti in June is an excellent reason to visit this part of the Serengeti. While these river crossings are less well known than the Mara River crossings to the north - where the river is more dangerous, wider, and has more viewing points - the Grumeti River, which is the first big obstacle for the herds to tackle, still offers some exciting sightings, with the added benefit of fewer tourists at the crossing points.

Wake before dawn for your chance for a sunrise game drive out on the plains of the Serengeti. The sunsets fire to the savannah as leopards, lions, and hyenas hunt for an early morning meal - making for a truly stunning visual experience.

The Grumeti River flows through the Western Corridor and acts as the first major barrier for the herd as it moves north. If you’re lucky, you’ll have front row seats for a river crossing as the wildebeest and zebras brave the crocodiles in the Grumeti River!

DAY 1 – ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park, passing Maasai villages and open plains. Upon arrival, enjoy a game drive across golden savannahs centered around the Tarangire River, known for attracting elephants, zebras, and antelopes.

Stop for a picnic lunch with scenic views before continuing your game drive. Look out for lions, leopards, buffalo, and rare species, then head to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2 – TARANGIRE – SERENGETI CENTRAL
After an early breakfast, journey toward the Serengeti through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with chances to spot wildlife along the way. Optional stops include Olduvai Gorge or a Maasai village for cultural and historical insights.

Arrive in the Serengeti for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive across the vast plains filled with abundant wildlife. Dinner and overnight in the park.

DAY 3 – SERENGETI WESTERN CORRIDOR
After breakfast, head to the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, a key area for the Great Migration as herds move toward the Grumeti River. This region offers a more remote and less crowded safari experience.

Spend the day tracking wildebeest and zebras, with chances to witness predator-prey action. The Grumeti River is home to large Nile crocodiles, making crossings dramatic and unforgettable.

DAY 4 – SERENGETI WESTERN CORRIDOR
Continue exploring the Western Corridor with full-day game drives focused on the migration and surrounding wildlife. The landscapes here are vast and rich, offering excellent photographic opportunities.

With luck, witness a river crossing as herds brave crocodile-filled waters. Enjoy more sightings of predators and herbivores before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5 – SERENGETI – NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA
Start with an early morning game drive for a final Serengeti experience, then enjoy lunch before heading toward Ngorongoro. The journey offers more chances to spot wildlife across the plains.

Arrive at the crater rim or Karatu for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the beautiful Ngorongoro Highlands.

DAY 6 – NGORONGORO CRATER – ARUSHA
After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive in this wildlife-rich ecosystem, home to the Big Five and a wide variety of animals.

After a picnic lunch near the hippo pool, return to Arusha in the evening, marking the end of your safari.
